Meeting Basic Information

A

l-Anon and Alateen meetings are a vital source for hope and help for those affected by another's drinking.  Begin by going to a meeting.  There you will find a safe, secure place, a place of comfort where others gather who have also had your problems, a place to hear others share their experience, strength and hope.

Just walk in to a meeting.  You don't have to do anything ahead of time.  It is suggested that beginners attend at least six meetings before deciding whether the program is right for them.  You need bring only one thing with you - an open mind.  You don't have to say a thing if you don't want to, just be willing to listen.  There will be experienced members there who can answer any questions you may have before or after the meeting.  Or, you can call 216-621-1381 (M-F 9:30-3:30) with these questions.

Al-Anon Meetings usually last one hour.  Alateen meetings are usually held at the same place and time as Al-Anon meetings, and AA meetings are held at some of the Al-Anon meeting locations.  Al-Anon, Alateen and AA meetings are always held in separate rooms.  Most all meetings are held once per week.

We have over 130 Al-Anon meetings in 66 communities and 10 Alateen meetings in 9 communities in NE Ohio.  Worldwide, we have over 24,000 Al-Anon meetings and 2300 Alateen meetings in 115 countries.  For a schedule of meetings in NE Ohio, click here.  For schedules of meetings in other parts of the USA and the world, click here.  For more on meetings (in Q&A format) click here.

Beginner's Meetings are special places where those who are not familiar with the program can get orientation, or can share their problems with someone who's experienced with the program.  Beginners Meetings usually last 1/2 hour and are preceded or followed by a regular meeting.

Alateen Meetings are attended by young people, usually teenagers.

AAC Meetings are for adults who have grown up in alcoholic households.  AAC stands for 'Al-Anon Adult Children'.  In this schedule, these meetings usually have group names contain the term 'AAC'.  While virtually all Al-Anon meetings are attended by adult children, AAC Meetings focus on this special topic.

Am I Eligible? - In general if your life has been deeply affected by a friend or family member's drinking, you are welcome to attend any Al-Anon meeting.
